Background
The college of medicine and health sciences is quite prestigious due to both local and international cooperation as a result it became universally accredited and a global standard. This college is registered with world federation of medical education in Canada which mean our students are allowed to sit for exams in Canada and US.
As stated by the Senior US credential Evaluator and I quote “A bachelor degree in medicine & health sciences from the University of Hargeisa is Comparable to a first professional degree in MBBS, this credential is equivalent to or exceeds a US bachelor’s degree in scope and content”
We have gained both local and international attention not for our name only but for our work. Our approach to teaching is very straight forward, the first year of studying with us students undertake preparations with basic sciences then they start medicine, clinical sciences et cetera and then students start their six year of education plus there is the final one year internship.
This is a college which is based in saving lives and producing quality professionals that by the time they graduate can and will assume important roles in their community. The students whom are successful in this college are very disciplined, hardworking and possess a passion for health and learning. The students who get to make it in this environment and are successful are the ones that possess a great deal of discipline and hard work, before they even start education here the students are subjected to competitive admissions exam and then they’re fairly evaluated and assessed. After which most students end up quitting or failing because this is a college which requires tremendous amounts of handwork.
Our lecturers are carefully selected as well, there is a competitive lecturer selection process in which we only give the platform to influence the minds of our students to the best most fit lecturers only. To reiterate there are a lot of opportunities abroad and domestically for those whom are interested in this field, it’s both morally, ethically and professionally rewarding to serve your community and do meaningful work.

The curriculum of our 7-year Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery imparts knowledge, clinical skills and competencies necessary in holistic medical practitioner. This 4-year degree program was started recently and emerged as one of the programs with the most intakes in the college. With our Bachelor of Science in Public Health degree, students will gain knowledge related to the interactions and interdependencies of health behavior at local, state, national, and international levels, and will develop the skills needed to protect communities ahead of a health crisis.
The program is designed to help prepare entry-level public health professionals to begin careers in a variety of health agencies: governmental health agencies, voluntary health agencies, community-based/non-governmental agencies, medical care services, education agencies, and business and industry.
With our bachelor of public health program, you will develop the specialized knowledge and skills needed to address current and emerging public health issues. You will learn to demonstrate proficient reasoning and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to analyze, synthesize and evaluate information to make sound decisions and solve problems as they apply to public health.

Hands-on training begins in your third semester, and you will have the opportunity to complete several clinical placements throughout your degree.
In your final year, there will be clinical placement where you’ll apply your theoretical knowledge to practice and develop clinical skills in real-life settings. You may have the opportunity to undertake a placement outside the capital city, Hargeisa.

This 4-year bachelor of Midwifery incorporates theory, science and clinical practice in a range of health facilities. This program includes extensive midwifery practice and students undertake midwifery professional experience in an allocated health service facility. The approach to learning includes lectures, enquiry-based workshops and clinical skills, integrating clinical placements in various midwifery settings. Graduates of the course are prepared to be competent midwives who have the skills, knowledge and confidence to practice midwifery according to the international definition of the role and scope of practice of the midwife
In our Bachelor of Midwifery program, students commence midwifery professional experience in the clinical setting in their second year till they graduate. Our Bachelor of Midwifery program helps students to be a registered member in Somaliland midwifery association and Somaliland health professional’s association right after they graduate.
