Background
The College of Engineering is focused on educating the next generation of engineers to prepare societal leaders with strong scientific and technical skills combined with an ethical and moral outlook to impact academia, business, government and/or the non-profit sector. Through discovery of new knowledge and its application we tackle global challenge problems, and create opportunities through innovation and entrepreneurship. We do this with a deep commitment to excellence, demonstrated meritocracy, transparency, inclusiveness, and diversity.
We offer different engineering programs at a bachelor levels, namely as
- Civil Engineering
- Electric and Electronics Engineering
- Telecommunications Engineering
- Architecture and Urban Planning
We educate students to be leaders in development so we provide an academic portfolio through the disciplines of engineering to engage them in envisioning learning excellence, research exploration and then finally specialized technical areas that are of a great demand and needed by the industry to serve our nation—Somaliland—and the global community.

Therefore, we focus our effort on preparing engineering professionals to face contemporary engineering challenges that are currently prevailing the world in general and particularly in our country, so in order to face to challenges and many others we come up with solutions to make matters better through smart, sustainable solutions that are created and implemented with knowledge, ethics, passion and compassion.
In our 5-years bachelor of Civil Engineering, you acquire both the technical and non-technical knowledge that you need to take on complex civil engineering challenges. You will learn everything that a civil engineer needs to know in order to design, construct and manage large projects in construction & infrastructure, water management, and traffic & transport. You will also become an expert in the many important organizational and non-technical issues involved in such projects, from legal and administrative aspects to communication, project and process management.
With UoH’s Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, you’ll weave teamwork, problem solving and design exercises together. You will gain the ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering to the field of civil engineering.
With this degree program, you will conduct experiments to prove or disprove engineering theories or designs. Also, gain expertise with computer software and other innovative engineering technologies and develop critical thinking skills needed to excel in a changing workplace.

Our 5-year bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering teaches students advanced knowledge from Physics and Mathematics in combination with principles from electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. Students will use their knowledge to design, create, install, and test equipment, devices, and systems that use electricity. This degree is designed for all students interested in the next generation of infrastructure and devices based on the Internet of Things (IoT). Acquire the professional skills to create better sensors and computing devices, more efficient energy networks and the latest innovative communications technology.

The educational objectives of this program are to:
- Produce graduates who are able to practice Telecommunication engineering to serve Uganda and the regional industries, government agencies, or national and international industries.
- Produce graduates with the necessary background and technical skills to work professionally in one or more of the following areas: telecommunication hardware and software design, computer network design, telecommunication system design and integration in wire line, mobile and satellite systems.
- Prepare graduates for personal and professional success with awareness and commitment to their ethical and social responsibilities, both as individuals and in team environments.
- Prepare graduates who are capable of entering and succeeding in an advanced degree program in a field such as engineering, science, or business.

Engineer: An engineer works on many different areas of networks, mainly mobile networks.

Line Installer: A line installer builds, installs, and repairs lines and cables used in physical networks. They may also work on the infrastructure required to place the wires.

Our 5-years bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Urban Planning teaches you technical and theoretical fundamentals as well as design methods for responsible work as an architect and Urban Planner. This degree engages you in the processes involved in the production of the urban spaces that shape our cities, from the design of buildings and urban spaces to the consideration of urban issues. You’ll be inspired by the work of innovative architects and planners whose approach aims to encourage people to actively participate in the design of their environment.
You will study a range of modules spanning our expertise in architecture, urban design, social and political theory. You’ll learn about the design process through a series of design projects. You’ll gradually develop your architectural thinking, skills and knowledge working in our well-equipped studios. You’ll also gain an understanding of architectural design through working with drawings and model-making in a live community project, seeing theory put into practice.
